RWA Malawi: The Annual General Meeting

RWA Malawi was established in 2015 and in 2017 leaders were selected. Throughout the past years we failed to meet due to lack of funds. Through the support from the RWA region office, in 2023, we had the annual general meeting where different partners took part. The aim of the general meeting was to review performance of the network, electing new office bearers, sharing experiences and progress and the opening of the bank account for RWA.

During the meeting, the experiences were shared by leaders from different districts here in Malawi. The national chair, Alice Kachere, also shared with us how RWA has been working during her stay as president. She said that she has managed to reach out and do campaign meeting on membership and unpaid members. We also achieved to established RWA in Mulanje, chiradzulu, nkhotakota, rumphi and karonga funded by Osisa. Kabudula, zomba, malosa T/A Malemia, T/A Chadza, T/A Mwambo, T/A Chadza, T/A Chikovi, funded by one billion rising and OXFAM. Alice Kachere recommended to open RWA bank account, registration and strengthening with the other NGOs. 

Working solidarity to end gender based violence. We also had presentations on customary land acts from ministry of land senior officer, Moffat Kakoko. The senior officer further said that land for all types of investment will be managed by MITC. Any underdeveloped land shall be subdivided in accordance with the physical planning act. Care international, action aide and trust Africa shared their experiences where Tusa from action aide said that they are promoting agroecology and making brocades, irrigation VSL and gender based violence.

After that we had elections by Elles Kwanjana where new office bearers were elected. Emily Potiphar from Ntchisi was elected as chairperson for RWA Malawi and Catherine Chiwaya from Phalombe as the secretary and Rhoda Mkandawire as the treasurer. Members were asked to select one organization as a secretariat of RWA Malawi and wait for NASFAM who have been working with RWA Malawi as secretariat for almost 6 years to do the handovers.
